“A fee sounds fair,” Ell told her friend,
“A lender must be paid.
I’ll be more careful with my cash.
I promise I’ll repay.”
A week went by. Yes, Ell did save.
Then Jack came with great news.
The carnival had come to town!
He knew which rides he’d choose.
Six dollars is what Ell would need.
By now she had saved eight.
But to her friend she still owed four.
Could she pay Dana late?
“The carnival’s so fun,” Ell thought.
“I know what I will do.
I’ll ask if it would be OK
To just pay Dana two.”
“That’s fine,” said Dana, “But again,
I have to charge a fee.
Your loan is now a dollar more.
So, now you owe me three.”
